Former Vice-President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called on the Federal Government to take decisive action following the killing of 32 people in Ungushi community, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Atiku condemned the killings in a statement posted on his verified X account on Monday, describing the victims as innocent Nigerians and expressing sympathy with their families and the people of Sokoto State.
He said government condolences were no longer enough in the face of repeated attacks across the country, urging authorities to treat the protection of human life as an emergency.
Atiku called for improved intelligence gathering, stronger security measures in vulnerable communities, and the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killings.
He warned that the government must not become accustomed to issuing statements after massacres without taking effective steps to prevent further attacks.
“The Federal Government must move from condolences to action: strengthen intelligence, secure vulnerable communities and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Atiku said.
He stressed that protecting the lives and property of citizens is the primary responsibility of government and urged the authorities to take urgent measures to prevent further loss of lives in Sokoto State and across Nigeria.
