Abducted Kebbi High Court Judge Freed After One Week in Captivity.

Justice Faruku Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has regained his freedom after spending one week in the custody of his abductors.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed on Monday that the judge, who was kidnapped from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area on July 26, was released earlier in the day.

Police spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, said the judge's release had been verified by both his family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice. He added that although the kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom, the police maintained their policy against paying ransom.

According to the police, security agencies have intensified efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for the abduction. Authorities also appealed to members of the public to provide useful information, assuring that all tips would be treated confidentially.

A member of Justice Bunza's family confirmed that he returned home safely on Monday.

"We are overjoyed and grateful to Almighty God for bringing him back safely after one week in captivity," the family member said.

The family expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies, the state government, friends, and residents of the state for their prayers, encouragement, and support throughout the difficult period.

However, they declined to reveal the circumstances surrounding the judge's release, saying details would be made public at a later time.

Justice Bunza's abduction last week sparked widespread concern and renewed attention to the growing security challenges in parts of Northwest Nigeria, where kidnappings and bandit attacks continue despite ongoing security operations.

His safe return has brought relief to his family, the judiciary, and residents of Kebbi State, who had anxiously awaited news of his release.
