More than 150 terrorists, including commanders, fighters and affiliates, have surrendered to troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, over the past week.
The military said the number represents a major increase from the more than 50 terrorists who surrendered the previous week. Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, attributed the development to sustained intelligence-led operations, increased military pressure and coordinated efforts to weaken terrorist groups.
According to the military, the pressure has disrupted the terrorists’ freedom of movement, logistics, supply chains and recruitment, making it increasingly difficult for them to maintain their operations.
Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from some of those who surrendered, which the military said demonstrates the impact of ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
Captain Goni said Operation Hadin Kai combines military operations with strategic communication and civil-military engagement to encourage terrorists to abandon violence and return to normal life.
All those who surrendered have reportedly been profiled and documented in accordance with established procedures and applicable laws.
The military said it would maintain the pressure on terrorist networks while encouraging further defections, with the broader goal of protecting civilians and restoring lasting peace and security across Nigeria’s North-East.
