Officials from the United States and Iran are holding indirect technical talks in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday as part of ongoing efforts to solidify a ceasefire agreement and lay the groundwork for a broader peace deal.
The discussions are being conducted through Qatari and Pakistani mediators and focus on a memorandum of understanding reached after progress made at the Lake Lucerne Summit.
According to diplomatic sources, US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are not participating in the technical talks. They instead met with Qatar's Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, on Tuesday to discuss developments related to the agreement.
The memorandum includes a 60-day ceasefire following months of conflict, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a roadmap toward a final agreement addressing Iran's nuclear programme.
Iran confirmed that its delegation is led by Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi but rejected claims by US President Donald Trump that direct negotiations with Washington would take place. Tehran insisted that the current discussions remain indirect and mediated.
The talks are seen as a significant step toward easing tensions in the Middle East and maintaining the fragile ceasefire announced earlier this week.
