A senior university lecturer has been arrested following allegations that he sexually harassed a married female student by allegedly delaying approval of her academic project after she repeatedly rejected his alleged sexual advances.
The lecturer, who is the Head of the Department of History and International Studies at Northwest University (formerly Yusuf Maitama Sule University), and also serves as a visiting lecturer at Mariam Abacha American Nigerian University (MAAUN), is accused of withholding the student's project approval for nearly two years.
According to reports, the student eventually informed her husband about the alleged harassment. The couple reportedly devised a plan after the lecturer allegedly arranged to meet the woman following Maghrib prayers.
Sources claim that when the lecturer arrived at the agreed location expecting to meet the student, he was instead confronted by her husband and several others. He was allegedly assaulted before being handed over to the police.
The allegations have sparked widespread reactions on social media. However, neither Northwest University nor MAAUN has released an official statement on the incident, and the claims remain unverified. Police are expected to investigate the matter to establish the facts.
