Ukraine has claimed responsibility for a major drone attack on Russia's largest oil refinery in the Siberian city of Omsk, marking one of the deepest strikes inside Russian territory since the war began.
According to Ukraine's military, the attack sparked a fire at the Omsk refinery, located about 2,700 kilometres from Ukrainian-held territory. The facility, owned by Gazprom Neft, is one of Russia's biggest oil-processing plants, with a capacity of around 460,000 barrels per day.
Authorities in Russia's Omsk region confirmed that drones targeted the refinery but said most of the unmanned aircraft were intercepted by air defence systems. Officials reported no casualties, while emergency responders worked to contain the fire and assess the damage.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the operation as a significant success for Ukraine's armed forces, saying it demonstrated Kyiv's ability to strike strategic targets deep inside Russia.
The attack comes as Ukraine intensifies its campaign against Russia's energy infrastructure. Ukrainian forces also reportedly targeted the Baltic Sea ports of Ust-Luga and Vysotsk, as well as military and industrial sites in other Russian regions.
Meanwhile, Russian-installed authorities in Crimea said a strike on the port city of Kerch killed one woman and caused a power outage in Sevastopol.
The latest attacks highlight the expanding reach of Ukraine's drone operations and the growing pressure on Russia's critical energy facilities amid the ongoing conflict.
