Tinubu Orders ICPC to Investigate Fake Presidential Council

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the activities of a fraudulent body known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu ordered the anti-corruption agency to complete its investigation and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.

According to the Presidency, the PFIPC was never created by the Federal Government and has no legal backing, presidential approval, or official recognition.

The statement alleged that one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the council and claimed to be a presidential appointee.

The ICPC has been directed to investigate the alleged use of forged appointment letters and other government documents, attempts to obtain official recognition and diplomatic support through false claims, including visa facilitation, and the opening of multiple bank accounts in the names of government agencies using forged documents.

President Tinubu also ordered investigators to examine the source and movement of funds linked to the alleged scheme and determine whether any public officials, financial institutions, or private individuals assisted in carrying out the operation.

The President instructed all ministries, departments, and agencies of the Federal Government to cooperate fully with the ICPC during the investigation.

He emphasized that the integrity of the Presidency and government institutions must be protected against impersonation, forgery, abuse of official identity, and other fraudulent activities. Tinubu also directed that anyone found guilty should face the full weight of the law.

The investigation follows allegations made by Adeyemi during a June 25 press conference, where he accused the President's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, of demanding a share of an alleged ₦27.4 billion take-off grant linked to the council.

Gbajabiamila has denied the allegations through his lawyer, stating that he has never had any dealings with Adeyemi and has threatened legal action over what he described as false and defamatory claims.
