Iran's Late Supreme Leader's Coffin Arrives in Iraq's Najaf for Funeral Ceremonies

The coffin of Iran's slain Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, arrived in the holy city of Najaf, Iraq, on Tuesday ahead of funeral ceremonies and a public procession.

According to Iraqi state television, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, senior government officials, and prominent Shi'ite religious leaders received the coffin at Najaf International Airport.

The funeral events are expected to continue on Wednesday, with thousands of mourners anticipated to join the procession through the city's streets.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also arrived in Najaf to participate in the ceremonies alongside Iraqi political leaders and religious figures.

The funeral in Najaf forms part of a series of memorial events following Khamenei's death, drawing significant attention from across the region. Reuters reported that the ceremonies are expected to attract large crowds as Iraq and Iran honor the late Iranian leader.
