Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have attacked Logomani community in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a soldier and destroying public facilities, including a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms.
The attackers reportedly launched a coordinated assault late Tuesday night on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Logomani before moving into the community, where they fired sporadically, forcing residents to flee before setting several buildings ablaze.
The Nigerian military said troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled the attack after intense fighting. Although the insurgents briefly breached part of the base's defensive perimeter, soldiers regrouped and drove them back, inflicting casualties on the attackers.
Military authorities confirmed that one soldier was killed during the operation, while two military gun trucks and other combat equipment were damaged.
Residents described the attack as well-planned, saying the insurgents overpowered security forces before targeting the school, police post and healthcare facility.
A joint team of the military, police and Civilian Joint Task Force later pursued the fleeing terrorists.
Following the attack, the Chairman of Ngala Local Government Council, Mala Tijjani Ngala, visited the affected community to assess the damage. He inspected the destroyed facilities and assured residents that the findings would be submitted to the Borno State Government for urgent intervention.
Security has since been reinforced in the area as troops continue clearance operations to prevent further attacks.
