A suspected bandit arrested by security operatives in Delta State has claimed that he and members of his gang worked for an Alhaji based in Abuja, where they allegedly reared cattle.
The suspect, identified as Abubakar Usman, was arrested by operatives of the Delta State Police Command's Anti-Kidnapping Squad in collaboration with the SafeCity Security Service during a raid on a hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.
Police said the operation followed the July 2 abduction of Mrs. Blessing Chiedu along Ani-Ifekide Farm Road in Ubulu-Uku. The kidnappers had reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦100 million from the victim's family.
According to security sources, Usman was captured after a gun battle between the suspected kidnappers and security operatives.
In a video recorded after his arrest, the suspect claimed he came from Niger State to Delta, where he joined two other gang members.
"We are three in number. I am from Niger State. We used a pump-action gun. The Alhaji we work for is in Abuja, but I don't know exactly where he lives," Usman said.
He also alleged that the gang received about ₦5 million in ransom from one of their kidnapping victims.
Authorities have not verified the suspect's claims about the alleged Abuja-based employer, and investigations are ongoing.
