Spain Records Over 1,000 Heat-Related Deaths

Spain has reported 1,028 heat-related deaths during the recent European heatwave, more than double the number recorded in June 2025. Officials say the first half of 2026 was the country's hottest on record, with average temperatures 1.6°C above normal.

Climate scientists say the extreme heatwave, which also shattered temperature records across several European countries, was made significantly more likely by human-caused climate change, raising concerns about the increasing impact of global warming.
