Six ISWAP Fighters Surrender to Troops as Military Intensifies Operations in Borno

Six suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), along with their family members, have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to the military, the group fled terrorist hideouts in the Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide areas of the Mandara Mountains before surrendering to soldiers of the 192 Battalion.

The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Mohammed Goni, said the surrender was part of a series of recent operational successes recorded across the North-East through intelligence-led missions, search-and-rescue operations, and coordinated security efforts.

In a separate operation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area, troops rescued two abducted victims from a terrorist hideout and recovered ₦1.2 million in cash, believed to be proceeds of criminal activities, along with food supplies and other logistics.

Security forces also recovered ₦1,541,500, two Tecno mobile phones, and other items from the surrendered ISWAP members and their families.

Meanwhile, troops at the Forward Operating Base in Logomani, Ngala Local Government Area, successfully repelled an attack by ISWAP fighters. Although the attackers briefly breached part of the base's defensive perimeter, soldiers regrouped and forced the insurgents to retreat after inflicting heavy casualties. One soldier was killed during the battle, while two military gun trucks and other equipment were damaged.

The military also arrested several suspected terrorist logistics suppliers in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states, recovering an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, cash, construction materials, vehicles, motorcycle tyres, medical supplies, and other items believed to support terrorist activities.

Operation Hadin Kai said it would continue offensive operations and search-and-rescue missions across the North-East, warning that anyone providing food, fuel, transportation, or other forms of support to terrorist groups would be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
