Saudi Arabia's Deputy Foreign Minister, Waleed El Khereiji, has arrived in Tehran to attend the funeral ceremonies of Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian media reports.
El Khereiji, accompanied by an official delegation, paid tribute to Khamenei as millions of mourners gathered in the Iranian capital for the funeral.
Khamenei was reportedly killed on February 28 during the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran. His death triggered retaliatory Iranian attacks on Gulf countries hosting U.S. military bases, including Saudi Arabia, escalating tensions across the region.
The Saudi deputy foreign minister's attendance at the funeral is being viewed as a significant diplomatic gesture despite recent regional hostilities and heightened security concerns.
