The Gombe State Police Command has rescued an eight-year-old boy who was abducted in Akko Local Government Area of the state and arrested four suspects allegedly linked to the crime.
The command's spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said in a statement on Thursday that the boy's father, Muhammadu Nabadara, reported him missing on June 28 after the child left home the previous morning at about 6:30 a.m. and failed to return.
Police detectives immediately launched an investigation and intensified efforts to locate the missing child. On June 29, the victim's family received a phone call claiming to reveal the boy's whereabouts, but police later confirmed the information was false.
A breakthrough came on June 30 following an intelligence-led operation, during which officers arrested the first suspect, Abdullahi Mohammed, from Jauro Musa Quarters in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area.
According to police, Mohammed confessed during interrogation that he conspired with three others—Mohammed Magaji (35), Sale Sale (23), and Walida Ya'u (18), all residents of Kagarawal Quarters in Gombe—to abduct the child.
The remaining suspects were subsequently arrested, and the abducted boy was found in their custody. He was rescued unharmed and safely reunited with his family.
Police said investigations are still ongoing and that all four suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is completed.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police in Gombe State, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, praised their professionalism, diligence, and swift response. He reaffirmed the command's commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
The rescue comes just a day after the Ondo State Police Command rescued a 61-year-old woman, Modupe Oladele, who had been kidnapped by armed men in Owo Local Government Area following a rapid police operation.
