The Benue State Police Command has arrested an 80-year-old man and seven other suspects in connection with the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State, Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, and another victim, Yakubu Isa.
The victims were reportedly murdered on July 1, 2026, while returning from a security meeting organised by the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ohimini Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, said the latest arrests followed sustained intelligence gathering, detailed investigations and tactical operations carried out by security operatives. The newly arrested suspects are Chief Morgan Ejaga (43), Chief Moses Anteyi (45), Chief John Ogli (58), Chief Yawuhu Adaji (49), Sylvester Ajonye (80), Aba Alexander Uloko (59), Fidelis Iduma (45), along with another suspect, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to 18.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended as part of ongoing efforts to uncover everyone involved in the killings.
Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended the investigative and tactical teams for their professionalism and dedication, noting that the operation has continued to yield positive results.
The command assured residents that investigations are still ongoing and pledged that all those directly or indirectly linked to the killings would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and continue providing credible information to support ongoing investigations, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and maintaining peace and security across Benue State.
