At least 42 people have been killed following a series of militant attacks in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province, according to the country's military.
Military spokesperson Lieutenant General said the death toll includes 18 police officers, 11 soldiers and four civilians, while security forces killed 54 suspected militants during subsequent operations.
The attacks began on Monday when militants overran a police post guarding the Mangi Dam project in Ziarat district. Eighteen police officers were reportedly abducted and killed, while nine others also lost their lives during the assault.
On Wednesday, militants ambushed a military vehicle on a highway in Balochistan, killing 11 soldiers, the military said.
Speaking after the attacks, Chaudhry vowed that Pakistan's security forces would continue operations against those responsible, warning that the military would pursue militants and their supporters wherever they are found.
Balochistan has witnessed a long-running insurgency involving separatist groups and armed fighters. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly accused neighbouring Afghanistan of allowing armed groups to operate from its territory, an allegation Kabul has consistently denied.
Pakistan has also accused India of supporting separatist groups operating in Balochistan, although India has rejected the claims.
