Only 600 of 8,000 Applicants Pass Nasarawa Rural Teachers Recruitment Screening

The Nasarawa State Government has disclosed that only 600 out of 8,000 candidates who participated in the screening exercise for the recruitment of rural primary school teachers passed the qualifying examination.

According to the government's Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) received about 10,000 applications, while 8,000 candidates took part in the screening. However, only 600 applicants met the required standard, falling short of the state's target of recruiting 1,000 teachers for rural communities.

Ahemba said the screening process has been completed by the consulting firm handling the exercise and the results have been handed over to SUBEB for the next stage of recruitment. He stressed that only qualified candidates will be employed.

The government also warned members of the public against fraudsters promising employment through illegal means, emphasizing that the recruitment process will remain transparent and merit-based.

He added that all successful candidates will be deployed to rural schools to address the shortage of teachers in underserved communities across the state.

The state government further announced plans to strengthen primary education by constructing three-storey classroom blocks in the three senatorial districts—Keffi, Akwanga, and Lafia. In addition, the Federal Government has approved the construction of model schools in the state in recognition of Nasarawa's efforts to improve basic education.
