At least nine police officers were killed after heavily armed attackers stormed a police post guarding a dam project in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province on Tuesday.
According to local police official Zahoor Ahmad, the victims included two senior officers. Eight other officers were briefly abducted during the assault but were later rescued by security forces.
Shahid Rind, spokesperson for the Balochistan government, said a joint operation involving the police, paramilitary forces, and counterterrorism personnel was launched immediately after the attack. He said the operation resulted in the deaths of 15 suspected attackers.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for the assault. However, Rind accused the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) of carrying out the attack, though no evidence was presented to support the claim.
Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, has experienced years of violence from armed groups targeting security personnel, infrastructure projects, and foreign investments. The Pakistani Taliban remain one of the militant groups active in the region, continuing their insurgency against the government in Islamabad.
