Nigeria's youngest chartered accountant, 16-year-old Osasere Okundaye, has revealed how she began her journey with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) at just 13 years old after completing secondary school ahead of her peers.
Speaking during the Power Must Change Hands monthly programme at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries headquarters in Magboro, Ogun State, Okundaye said her parents encouraged her to pursue ICAN's Accounting Technicians Scheme (ATS) instead of waiting to gain admission into university.
She explained that the journey was difficult because she had not studied accounting in secondary school, making the early stages of the examinations particularly challenging. However, she remained determined, worked harder, and successfully progressed through each stage.
Okundaye also recalled a major setback when she failed one of her final professional examination papers last year. Rather than giving up, she rewrote the paper in May this year and passed, earning her qualification as a chartered accountant at the age of 16.
Her achievement was recently recognised by Nigeria's Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who described her success as a reflection of hard work, discipline, resilience, and dedication to excellence.
Okundaye's accomplishment comes a year after another young Nigerian, Temilola Blossom Arise, passed ICAN's professional stage examination at the age of 18, highlighting the growing achievements of young professionals in the accounting field.
