Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) cameraman and uncovered evidence pointing to the involvement of foreign terrorist facilitators during an operation in Borno State.
According to the military, the operation took place on Saturday after ISWAP fighters attempted to infiltrate Cross Kauwa in Kukawa Local Government Area under the cover of darkness. The terrorists were reportedly trying to loot cholera medical supplies but were repelled by troops after a fierce gun battle.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, said the terrorists suffered heavy casualties and were forced to retreat.
During the operation, troops recovered a Sony camcorder belonging to the slain ISWAP cameraman. Military authorities said footage found on the device revealed the presence of three foreign terrorist facilitators, including a Palestinian identified as Abu Ishaq, believed to be ISWAP's chief trainer, and a Moroccan identified as Abu Thaiba, who allegedly serves as the group's medical doctor. Another Arab operative was also seen in the footage, but his identity has yet to be confirmed.
The military said the discovery reinforces intelligence suggesting that ISWAP continues to receive foreign support, specialized training, and transnational assistance.
Troops also recovered ammunition, terrorist uniforms, and other combat equipment. Satellite imagery and human intelligence reportedly confirmed that the terrorists evacuated several bodies after the failed attack, indicating significant losses.
Two Nigerian soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire and were airlifted for medical treatment. The military said both are in stable condition.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups and restoring lasting peace and security across Nigeria's North-East.
