The Nigeria Police Force has announced the rescue of 35 kidnapped victims and the arrest of more than 60 criminal suspects during coordinated security operations carried out between July 27 and July 30 across 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the operations involved tactical squads, anti-kidnapping units, intelligence personnel and other security agencies working together to tackle kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, drug trafficking and other crimes.
The police said the largest rescue operation took place in Sokoto State, where security operatives engaged suspected bandits in a gun battle and successfully rescued 32 kidnapped victims, including six men and 26 women. The suspects reportedly escaped into a nearby forest, while investigations continue.
In Nasarawa State, three abducted female students were rescued unharmed after security agencies intensified efforts against their captors. The victims received medical attention before being reunited with their families.
In Lagos State, police arrested the alleged leader of a highway robbery gang during an intelligence-led operation. The suspect reportedly confessed to robbery and admitted membership of a secret cult. Another kidnapped victim was also rescued along the Lagos–Ogun border.
Security operatives also raided suspected criminal hideouts in Lagos, leading to the arrest of 39 suspects and the recovery of several hand-push trucks and weighing scales believed to be linked to criminal activities.
In the Federal Capital Territory, police arrested two suspects accused of vandalising solar-powered streetlight facilities and recovered 14 solar poles and related equipment. Three suspected drug dealers were also arrested, with officers recovering large quantities of controlled drugs, including Tramadol, Pregabalin, Nitrazepam and Codeine.
In Delta State, one suspect was arrested after police recovered two locally made pistols and live ammunition. Seven suspected cult members were also apprehended during another operation, with officers recovering a double-barrel gun, live cartridges and other exhibits.
Police in Akwa Ibom State arrested a wanted suspect accused of stealing goods worth more than ₦5 million along with a company vehicle. Two additional suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalising government drainage infrastructure.
In Benue State, security operatives intercepted a suspected gunrunner and recovered 115 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition. Police also arrested a suspected illegal gun manufacturer and recovered a locally fabricated rifle along with tools allegedly used in producing firearms.
In Enugu State, a suspect was arrested over the alleged defilement and impregnation of a 13-year-old girl, while police in Bauchi State arrested another suspect in connection with an alleged rape case.
In Ekiti State, officers arrested a suspect over alleged fraud and recovered counterfeit United States dollars and suspected charms.
Meanwhile, in Osun State, six suspects were arrested over alleged vote-buying and other electoral offences. Police recovered ₦4.8 million in cash, a ballot paper specimen, a laptop, a printer, a photocopy machine, a voters' register and several voter cards.
The Nigeria Police Force said investigations are ongoing in all the cases and assured the public that efforts to arrest fleeing suspects and their accomplices would continue.
