Muhammad has remained the most popular baby boy name in England and Wales for the third consecutive year, according to the latest baby names data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The 2025 birth registration figures, published on Thursday, cover more than 585,000 babies born across England and Wales.
For boys, Muhammad ranked first, followed by Noah, Leo, Luca, Arthur, Oliver, George, Oscar, Theodore and Freddie.
Among girls, Olivia retained the number one position for the 10th consecutive year. It was followed by Lily, Amelia, Isla, Florence, Freya, Poppy, Elsie, Ivy and Isabella.
The ONS said Muhammad has featured in the top 10 boys' names since 2016 and was the most popular name in four of England's nine regions. Olivia was the leading girls' name in three English regions as well as Wales.
The agency noted that different spellings, such as Mohammed, are counted separately, meaning the combined popularity of the name is even higher. The top 10 names accounted for about 9.1 percent of all registered births in 2025.
New entries into the top 100 included Eliana, Gracie and Anaya for girls, while Vincent, Carter and Stanley joined the list for boys. Ada and Roman recorded the fastest rise in popularity among girls' and boys' names respectively.
According to experts, Muhammad's continued popularity reflects the UK's growing Muslim population and the strong tradition of passing down the name across generations. The ONS added that there were no significant changes in the overall number of births compared with recent years.
