Mojtaba Khamenei's Absence at Funeral Raises Questions Over Iran's Security

Millions of mourners and foreign dignitaries attended the funeral ceremonies of Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in Tehran, but the continued absence of his successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, has sparked widespread speculation and concern among many Iranians.

Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public since the February 28 Israeli airstrike that reportedly wounded him and killed his father, his wife Zahra Haddad-Adel, and several other family members. Iranian authorities have attributed his absence to ongoing assassination threats.

The uncertainty intensified after Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that any future Iranian leader who seeks to threaten Israel could face the same fate as Ali Khamenei. His remarks followed months of targeted Israeli strikes that reportedly killed several senior Iranian military and political figures.

Rumours about Mojtaba Khamenei's health have continued to circulate, with reports suggesting he sustained serious injuries during the attack. Iranian authorities have not publicly confirmed the extent of his condition.

Political analysts say the prolonged absence of Iran's new supreme leader is unusual and has created uncertainty among the public. They note that while security concerns may justify limited public appearances, maintaining confidence in the country's leadership will eventually require Mojtaba Khamenei to be seen publicly.
