Millions Gather in Tehran as Iran Holds State Funeral for Khamenei

Millions of mourners and delegations from more than 100 countries gathered in Iran's capital on Saturday for the state funeral of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during the recent U.S.-Israeli conflict.

Thousands of people filled Tehran's Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla and surrounding streets, carrying flags and banners while paying their final respects. Authorities imposed extensive traffic restrictions as crowds streamed into the city from across the country.

During the ceremony, mourners chanted slogans calling for retaliation against Israel and the United States, reflecting heightened tensions following Khamenei's death.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran was seeking to reach a settlement with Washington, claiming the United States had allowed Tehran a pause during the funeral period. Iranian officials have not publicly confirmed any such arrangement.

World leaders and senior officials from dozens of countries, including regional neighbours and international organisations, attended the funeral, underscoring the event's diplomatic significance.

Separately, Israel carried out new strikes in southern Lebanon, saying it targeted Hezbollah positions despite a recently announced framework agreement aimed at reducing hostilities.
