Lagos NURTW Organising Secretary Dies After Gunmen Attack

The Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Council, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Ijaya, has died after being shot by unidentified gunmen in Lagos.

The attack occurred on Sunday night as Ajiboye was returning home from his childhood neighbourhood in Fadeyi. The assailants reportedly intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road axis and opened fire, leaving the car riddled with bullets.

Videos and photographs shared online showed the white vehicle with multiple bullet holes across the windscreen and body. Although initial reports suggested Ajiboye and other occupants survived the attack with gunshot wounds, later reports confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries.

Reacting to the tragedy, Lagos NURTW Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, described Ajiboye's death as a painful loss. In a tribute shared on Facebook, he praised the late union official as a loyal friend, dependable ally, and dedicated member of the union.

Sego said Ajiboye's unwavering commitment to the NURTW and their political structure would be deeply missed. He also extended his condolences to the deceased's family, friends, and members of the union, praying for God to grant him eternal rest.

Authorities have yet to identify the attackers, and no official statement has been issued on any arrests or the motive behind the killing. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
