The body of Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has arrived in the holy city of Qom ahead of a planned funeral procession, according to Iranian state television.
The remains were flown by helicopter from Tehran after millions of mourners gathered in the Iranian capital for a third consecutive day to pay their final respects. Khamenei and four members of his family were killed in a reported US-Israeli airstrike on February 28.
Crowds dressed in black lined the streets of Tehran, throwing flower petals onto the coffins as the funeral procession made its way through the city. State media described the turnout as one of the largest in Iran's recent history, comparing it to the funeral of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989.
Among those paying tribute was President Masoud Pezeshkian, alongside senior government officials, military commanders, and other political leaders. Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also appeared publicly during the ceremonies.
However, Khamenei's son and successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, was absent from the public events. Analysts suggested ongoing security concerns and the fragile ceasefire between Iran, the United States, and Israel may have prevented his appearance.
Iranian authorities said more than 34,000 people received medical assistance during the funeral events, with no deaths reported.
The funeral ceremonies are expected to conclude on Thursday with Khamenei's burial in his hometown of Mashhad, where thousands more mourners are expected to gather.
