Keiko Fujimori Officially Declared Winner of Peru Presidential Election

Right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori has officially been declared the winner of Peru's presidential election by the country's electoral authority, weeks after the June 7 runoff vote.

Fujimori secured 50.13% of the vote, narrowly defeating left-wing challenger Roberto Sanchez, who received 49.86%.

The president-elect, daughter of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, campaigned on promises to tackle rising crime and restore stability. Following her victory, she pledged to unite the country after years of political and economic uncertainty.

The closely contested runoff followed an April first-round election in which Fujimori and Sanchez advanced ahead of 33 other candidates.

Authorities have now officially confirmed Fujimori as Peru's next president.
