Kano Sharia Court Jails Man Six Months for Assaulting, Insulting Parents

A Sharia Court sitting at Sharada Hisbah in Kano State has sentenced a man, Mohammed Habibu, to six months' imprisonment without the option of a fine for assaulting and insulting his parents.

The court heard that Habibu had repeatedly mistreated and verbally abused his parents after they advised him to stop engaging in what they described as immoral activities.

When the charges were read to him, the defendant pleaded guilty to all counts.

The presiding judge, Justice Sani Tanimu Sani Hausawa, invited witnesses to confirm the defendant's confession before delivering judgment.

After reviewing the evidence and accepting the guilty plea, the court convicted Habibu and ordered that he serve six months in a correctional centre without the option of a fine.
