Kano Government Confirms Five Deaths in Bichi Rainstorm, Corrects Earlier Reports

The Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has confirmed that five people, not eight, lost their lives in the rainstorm that struck Bichi Local Government Area last week.

The agency's Executive Secretary, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, said the casualty figure was verified after officials visited the affected communities to assess the extent of the disaster.

According to Kubarachi, the assessment also documented the number of damaged houses and destroyed properties before a comprehensive report was submitted to the Kano State Government.

He explained that relief materials would be distributed to victims as soon as they are received from the state government.

The rainstorm, which occurred on July 22, destroyed numerous homes and valuable property worth millions of naira across Bichi Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, the Kano State House of Assembly has urged the state government to provide immediate relief assistance to affected residents. The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by the lawmaker representing Bichi Constituency, Lawan Shehu, during plenary presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore.

State authorities say emergency response efforts are ongoing, with support expected to reach affected families once relief supplies are released.
