Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi is expected to travel to Washington on Monday leading an official government delegation following an invitation from the United States.
Government spokesperson Haider al-Aboudi announced that the visit will focus on strengthening economic and energy cooperation between Iraq and the U.S.
According to al-Aboudi, both countries are expected to sign several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering the oil and gas sector. The agreements are aimed at attracting more American energy companies to invest in Iraq and help increase the country's oil production capacity.
The visit comes as Iraq seeks to expand international partnerships, boost investment in its energy industry, and improve long-term economic growth through cooperation with U.S. companies.
Further details of the agreements are expected to be released after the meetings in Washington.
