A senior pastor of the Universal Reformed Christian Church (NKST), Rev. Dr. Samuel Gbinde, and two church members have been abducted by suspected gunmen in Andyar community, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the pastor's residence late Monday night, firing gunshots to scare residents before taking the three victims to an unknown location. The community is said to be close to Logo LGA, an area that has witnessed repeated attacks by bandits and armed herders.
In a statement, NKST General Secretary Rev. Dr. T. A. Targba confirmed the incident and described it as tragic. He called on Christians and the public to pray for the safe and unconditional release of the abducted pastor and the two worshippers.
The church also urged security agencies, the Benue State Government, and the Federal Government to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and bring those responsible to justice. It expressed concern over the growing wave of kidnappings across the country and called for stronger measures to tackle insecurity.
As of the time of reporting, the Benue State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
