Death Toll from Venezuela Earthquakes Rises to 4,333 as Recovery Efforts Continue

The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has climbed to 4,333, according to the country's National Assembly President, Jorge Rodriguez.

Speaking on Saturday, Rodriguez said 16,740 people have been injured, while 6,462 survivors have been rescued. He added that 315 victims remain unidentified, and nearly 17,000 people have been left homeless by the disaster.

Authorities reported that 856 buildings were damaged, including 190 structures that either collapsed completely or suffered severe structural failure.

To support displaced families, acting President Delcy Rodriguez is expected to begin distributing the first 200 newly built homes to affected residents next week. The government estimates that about 25,000 homes will be needed for those who lost their properties and has already identified 40 sites for new housing developments in the hardest-hit areas of Osma and Chuspa.

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, with officials saying emergency teams continue to search locations where survivors may still be trapped.

Rodriguez stressed that rescue efforts would continue, saying authorities remain hopeful of finding more survivors despite the scale of the devastation.
