The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the Court of Appeal judgment delivered in Abuja regarding the party's congresses, insisting that the ruling will not affect its direct primaries or the validity of candidates selected for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC had already begun the process of appealing the judgment at the Supreme Court, describing the appellate court's decision as legally unsustainable.
According to the party, the court ruling relates only to the election of ward, local government, and state executive committees and has no impact on the direct primaries through which its candidates emerged.
The ADC also expressed support for the dissenting opinion delivered by one of the appellate justices, stating that it more accurately reflects the law and the party's position.
The party urged its members and supporters to remain calm and focused, assuring them that preparations for the 2027 general elections would continue without interruption.
The latest legal dispute is part of an ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, with rival factions laying claim to the party's structure. However, the party maintains that its recognised national leadership remains intact and that its candidates were produced in line with the Electoral Act and the party's constitution.
The ADC further reaffirmed its commitment to providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative while pursuing all legal options to challenge the Appeal Court's decision.
