The Nigerian Army has hosted a special luncheon for soldiers wounded in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria's North-East as part of activities marking the 2026 Army Day Celebration.
The event was held at the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.
Speaking at the occasion, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, represented by his deputy, Air Vice Marshal Olushola Akinboyewa, praised the courage and sacrifice of the wounded troops. He said every military success against insurgents has come at the cost of the bravery and resilience of Nigerian soldiers.
He described the wounded personnel as heroes who answered the nation's call without hesitation, adding that their injuries are lasting symbols of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to protecting Nigeria.
The commander also paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives during operations, assuring that their sacrifices and the welfare of their families would never be forgotten.
He further commended doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel for their dedication to the treatment and recovery of injured troops, while appreciating the families of the wounded soldiers for their patience and support.
In his welcome address, the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Solomon Diwa, described the soldiers' scars as badges of honour that reflect their bravery in the face of danger.
He reassured the wounded personnel that their welfare remains a top priority for the Nigerian Army, promising continued medical care, rehabilitation, and support as they recover.
The luncheon formed part of activities to recognise the sacrifices of troops and reaffirm the Army's commitment to those who have been injured in the line of duty.
