The United States has announced a new ban on the import of additional technology products from several Chinese manufacturers, as Washington continues its crackdown on Chinese-made electronic equipment.
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said the move expands a 2022 restriction that targeted telecommunications and surveillance equipment from companies including Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, Hikvision, and Dahua, citing national security concerns.
The expanded ban will now cover some older models of equipment used for public safety, government facility security, surveillance of critical infrastructure, and other national security purposes.
The FCC said the restrictions are necessary to reduce risks to the U.S. communications sector, and the new rules are expected to take effect in early July.
The agency clarified that Americans will still be allowed to use equipment they already own.
The decision is part of a broader series of U.S. actions against Chinese technology imports, including previous restrictions on certain drones and consumer internet routers.
