Three Soldiers Killed as Military Battles Terrorists Across Four States

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North West), under Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued kidnapped victims, killed suspected terrorists, and recovered weapons, motorcycles, and stolen livestock during operations across Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna, and Zamfara States.

The military confirmed that three soldiers were killed during an operation in Zamfara State.

The operations, carried out between June 18 and June 22, were part of ongoing efforts to tackle terrorism and banditry in the North-West region.

According to the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops stopped an attempt by armed terrorists to enter Tureta town in Sokoto State.

The terrorists fled but were tracked to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were moving with abducted civilians and stolen livestock. Troops pursued them, overcame an ambush, rescued the victims, recovered cattle, and seized two motorcycles.

In Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops raided a suspected terrorist hideout, killing two terrorists while others escaped with gunshot wounds. Recovered items included rifles, ammunition, motorcycles, communication devices, and livestock.

In Kaduna State, soldiers rescued two women and a one-year-old child who had been kidnapped from Kajenjere Tami Village. The victims were abandoned by their captors after they noticed advancing troops.

The rescued victims were taken to a healthcare facility for treatment.

In Zamfara State, security forces foiled a planned terrorist attack on Gamdanda Village in Gummi Local Government Area. Weapons, ammunition, eight motorcycles, and food supplies meant for terrorist operations were recovered.

The military also announced the arrest of suspected terrorists and informants, including a man identified as Muhammad Mamman, who is currently under investigation.

Meanwhile, troops in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State repelled another terrorist attack. The military said the attackers suffered heavy casualties, but three soldiers lost their lives during the confrontation.

In a separate operation in Katsina State, troops of the 17 Brigade Nigerian Army raided a terrorist hideout in Ginchawa community, Matazu LGA, killing two terrorists and recovering weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, phones, and livestock.

Residents of the Zugurma area of Niger State have also raised concerns over the reported movement of armed bandits in the community. Police said security forces responded after bandits blocked the Mokwa-Bussa Road and attacked a police post, forcing the attackers to retreat into the forest.

Authorities said normalcy has since returned to the area.
