The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested 345 suspected thugs and drug dealers in a statewide crackdown on criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.
He said the arrests were carried out during a coordinated operation conducted between June 5 and 7 across all 44 local government areas of the state. The operation targeted criminal hideouts, drug distribution points, and known black spots.
According to him, 187 suspects were arrested during a three-day clearance operation, while others were picked up in earlier raids and ongoing investigations.
The police also recovered:
270 dangerous weapons, including knives, cutlasses, and clubs
Large quantities of illicit drugs such as cannabis and other substances
Bakori said all suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and will be prosecuted where evidence is found against them.
He explained that the success of the operation was made possible through Operation Kukan Kura and the newly launched Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), which have improved security response in the state.
The Commissioner warned criminals that Kano would no longer be a safe place for illegal activities, adding that the police would continue sustained operations against crime.
He also urged residents to support security agencies by providing useful intelligence, assuring that all information will be treated confidentially.
