The Kano State Government has established an administrative investigation committee to look into the circumstances surrounding the death of a student of St. Louis College, Kano.
The committee was approved by Governor Abba Yusuf and will be led by the State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ali Makoda, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawaki-Tofa.
The panel includes officials from the state government, education authorities, legal affairs, and representatives of private schools. The Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairman of St. Louis College is also part of the committee.
The committee’s responsibilities include investigating the events that led to the student’s death, reviewing medical records, examining the school environment, and determining whether there were failures in supervision, welfare management, or school procedures.
It will also investigate allegations of bullying, forced actions, or unauthorised disciplinary measures within the school.
The government said the committee would review complaints, assess emergency response systems, and recommend measures to improve student safety in boarding schools across Kano State.
Governor Yusuf directed the panel to conduct the investigation fairly and professionally and submit its findings within the given timeframe.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command has also created a separate investigation team after receiving a petition from lawyers representing the late student’s mother.
The student, identified as Maimuna Sani Salisu, was a JSS 2 boarding student at St. Louis Secondary School, Kano.
