Security operatives in Kaduna State have rescued three people who were held captive by kidnappers for more than 40 days and arrested five suspects accused of aiding the criminal gang.
According to a statement released on Saturday by Kaduna State Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan, the operation was carried out by a joint security team working with officers from Fushin Kada and the Hunkuyi Divisional Police headquarters.
The breakthrough followed weeks of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated security efforts that led operatives to a hideout believed to be used by armed kidnappers.
Police said the suspects fled upon noticing the approaching security team, leaving behind the victims, who were rescued without injuries.
The freed victims were identified as Ekechikwu Omale, Ummi Salisu from Kudan Local Government Area of Kaduna State, and Pastor Daniel Tanko Bawa from Tufa Village in neighbouring Niger State.
Following their rescue, the victims received medical attention before being reunited with their families.
Investigators also arrested five individuals suspected of acting as informants for the kidnapping network. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects allegedly supplied intelligence and logistical assistance to the abductors.
Police said the suspects admitted their involvement during questioning, while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal group.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, praised the security personnel involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command's commitment to combating kidnapping and violent crime across the state.
He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, emphasizing that community cooperation remains essential in tackling criminal activities.
