Iran has rejected US President Donald Trump’s claim that Tehran requested a meeting with Washington in Qatar, as tensions continue following recent military exchanges between the two countries.
Trump said Iran had asked for talks and that a meeting would take place in Doha, describing it as potentially important. However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry denied that any such meeting had been scheduled.
Iran said it would instead send an expert delegation to Doha to discuss issues including the release of frozen Iranian assets and follow-up steps related to a recent understanding with the United States.
Meanwhile, concerns remain over the future of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route. Iran and Oman said they had reached a “common understanding” on managing the waterway, while Oman clarified that it does not support charging transit fees for ships.
Shipping activity through the strait has continued despite security threats, although traffic has dropped significantly since recent clashes involving Iran and the United States.
Several Middle Eastern countries have also condemned Israel’s recent military actions in southern Syria, warning that continued escalation could increase instability across the region.
The situation comes after a period of military confrontation, ceasefire discussions, and diplomatic efforts between Iran and the US, with both sides facing pressure to prevent further escalation.
