Iran has strongly criticized a United States-backed draft resolution expected to be presented to the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, describing it as an attempt to justify further pressure and possible aggression against the country.
In a statement released by Iran’s mission to the United Nations in Vienna, Tehran rejected allegations of non-cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog and accused Washington of creating the conditions that have hindered inspections of some Iranian nuclear facilities.
The proposed resolution reportedly calls on Iran to provide additional information about its enriched uranium stockpile and grant inspectors greater access to nuclear sites. The measure is expected to be considered by the 35-member IAEA Board of Governors during its ongoing meeting in Vienna.
Iran argued that several nuclear facilities were damaged during recent military confrontations involving the United States and Israel, making inspections and verification activities difficult. Iranian officials said it was unfair to accuse Tehran of failing to cooperate under such circumstances.
The statement also criticized recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, claiming continued threats against Iranian nuclear facilities undermine diplomatic efforts and raise tensions.
Tehran warned that any resolution that ignores the impact of recent conflicts on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure would be viewed as politically motivated. Iranian authorities have repeatedly maintained that their nuclear program is peaceful and have accused some Western countries of using the IAEA process to increase pressure on the Islamic Republic.
The draft resolution is expected to face debate and a possible vote by IAEA member states later this week. Its outcome could further influence relations between Iran and Western powers amid ongoing regional tensions and disputes over nuclear oversight.
