Gunmen Open Fire at Birthday Party, Kill Eight in Plateau

At least eight people have been killed and more than 10 others injured after armed attackers stormed a gathering in Gwon-Ajang village, Foron District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State.

Residents said the attack occurred around 10 p.m. on Sunday while community members were attending a birthday celebration. Witnesses reported that the gunmen suddenly arrived at the venue and opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic as people fled for safety.

A local youth, Bishop Iliya, said the victims had gathered for a social event when the assailants launched the deadly attack.

“The people were celebrating a birthday when the gunmen came and started shooting at everyone in sight. It is a painful tragedy for our community,” he said.

The attack was also confirmed by the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM-A), which stated that at least eight people lost their lives while more than 10 others sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

The group condemned the renewed violence and urged security agencies to take decisive action to prevent further attacks and bring those responsible to justice.

The injured victims were reportedly evacuated to nearby medical facilities, while security personnel were deployed to the area following the incident.

Community leaders have expressed concern over the recurring attacks in parts of Plateau State and called for stronger measures to protect residents and their property.

Police authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident as of the time of reporting.
