A former US official and analyst, Matthew Hoh, has described the recent Iran-US memorandum of understanding (MoU) as a major strategic success for Tehran, claiming Washington failed to achieve its goals through military pressure.
Hoh, a former US Marine and State Department official, said the agreement showed that Iran resisted pressure from the United States and its allies and forced a return to negotiations.
He argued that the concessions made by Washington were unexpected and that many analysts did not believe the conflict would end with such an outcome.
According to Hoh, economic pressure linked to the conflict created concerns over global energy markets, influencing the US decision to pursue diplomacy.
He said Iran should use its current position to secure guarantees and long-term benefits from any final agreement.
The former official also warned that tensions could return in the future, saying Washington’s approach toward Tehran remains uncertain.
