Suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have attacked Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting an unknown number of students.
The attackers reportedly stormed the school around 9 a.m. on Monday, firing into the air and causing panic among students, teachers, and residents before taking some National Examinations Council (NECO) candidates into the bush.
A teacher was reportedly killed during the attack, while another person sustained injuries.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said some students were still missing.
He said security forces, including the military, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local security officials, have launched a search-and-rescue operation to locate the abducted students and arrest the attackers.
Authorities said further details would be released as the operation continues.
