Armed bandits have reportedly set fire to a primary school in Dekara town, Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, after allegedly collecting a ₦10 million levy from local communities.
Residents said the attackers invaded the area on Wednesday and destroyed Central Primary School, Dekara. They reportedly emerged from the Kainji Lake National Park before launching the attack.
According to residents, communities had paid the demanded levy after receiving threats of further attacks, but the bandits allegedly returned and carried out the assault despite the payment.
In a separate incident, attacks were reported in Dnakau, Lanta, and Unguwan Kawo communities in Shiroro Local Government Area. One person was killed, while another was abducted during the raids.
The Niger State Police Command has not issued an official response on the incidents.
