Abducted Nigerian General and Wife Appeal for Government Rescue in Video

A retired Nigerian Army Major General, Abubakar Rabe, and his wife, who were abducted in Katsina State a week ago, have appeared in a video appealing for government intervention to secure their release.

The couple was reportedly kidnapped along the Karaduwa–Matazu road while travelling in Katsina State. In the video released by their captors, the two were seen speaking under duress and calling on authorities to meet the demands of the abductors.

In the four-minute footage circulating on social media, the general’s wife relayed the demands of the kidnappers, which included the release of three individuals identified as Sani, Aminu, and Nasiru. The group also demanded the return of livestock allegedly seized by security forces.

No ransom demand was mentioned in the video. The retired general also briefly spoke, urging authorities and local leaders to work toward a peaceful resolution, saying the abductors were open to dialogue.

The incident occurred when the couple was travelling with their driver along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area. Armed men, believed to be bandits, reportedly ambushed their vehicle, opened fire, and forced it to stop. The driver was said to have been injured in the attack.

Security agencies and the Katsina State Government have not yet issued an official statement on the latest video.

The case adds to ongoing insecurity concerns in parts of northern Nigeria, where kidnappings by armed groups continue to affect travellers and rural communities.
