12 Years Later: Malaysia Expands Hunt for Missing Flight MH370

Malaysia has extended its agreement with deep-sea exploration company Ocean Infinity to continue the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 for another year.

The Transport Ministry announced that the renewed search operation will run from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, as authorities continue efforts to locate the aircraft that disappeared more than a decade ago.

Flight MH370 vanished on March 8, 2014, while travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crew members onboard. The disappearance remains one of the world’s greatest aviation mysteries.

Ocean Infinity resumed the search after signing a new agreement with Malaysia to explore a 15,000-square-kilometre area in the southern Indian Ocean. The company will receive up to $70 million only if the aircraft wreckage is found.

Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the extension demonstrates the government’s continued commitment to providing answers and closure for the families of those onboard.

The remaining search area covers about 7,428 square kilometres, which authorities hope will be fully investigated during the extended operation.

Ocean Infinity’s search equipment may temporarily move to another location between November 2026 and April 2027 due to other commercial commitments, but officials said the mission will continue.
