A senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Akbar Velayati, says the United States will fail to defeat Iran politically after what he described as a military setback during recent regional tensions.
In a statement posted on social media Monday, Velayati accused US President Donald Trump of trying to pressure Tehran into accepting unfavorable terms following the recent conflict that ended with a ceasefire in early April.
“We defeated you on the battlefield; never imagine that you will emerge victorious in diplomacy,” Velayati wrote, warning Washington against what he called continued threats and pressure tactics.
The former Iranian foreign minister criticized Trump for claiming Iran would “no longer laugh” at the United States, saying such remarks ignored the realities of the recent confrontation and the broader geopolitical changes in West Asia.
Velayati also warned against underestimating Iran’s regional influence, arguing that Tehran’s response during the conflict had reshaped political and security dynamics across the region, including maritime developments in the Persian Gulf.
He further advised Trump to understand what he described as the “new geopolitical order” in West Asia before pursuing further diplomatic or strategic moves involving Iran and China.
