Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has revealed that he and his supporters received no political benefit after helping former President Muhammadu Buhari win the 2015 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Kwankwaso said he mobilised nearly two million votes for Buhari during the election that ended the Peoples Democratic Party’s 16-year rule at the federal level.
According to him, despite the sacrifices made by his political camp, neither he nor the constituencies he represented benefited from the Buhari administration.
Kwankwaso explained that the experience contributed to his decision to push for political change in Nigeria. He reviewed past administrations since 1999, praising former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his efforts, while noting that late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua faced serious health challenges during his tenure.
He also said former President Goodluck Jonathan dealt with political complications surrounding zoning arrangements.
Kwankwaso criticised the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying Nigerians at the grassroots are demanding significant political change.
He added that the growing support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress since he and Peter Obi joined the party reflects public desire for a new direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso further argued that good governance is not determined by regional politics, stressing that Nigeria needs capable and committed leadership rather than leaders chosen solely based on their place of origin.
