Iran's top military command has declared that the country's armed forces maintain full control over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that any attempt by foreign military vessels to interfere with operations in the strategic waterway will face a response.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said all commercial ships, oil tankers, and other vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz must use designated routes and obtain authorization from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy.
The command stressed that compliance with established maritime regulations is mandatory for all vessels using the waterway, adding that violations could endanger the safety and security of transit through the strait.
Iran also warned foreign naval forces operating in the region against disrupting maritime traffic or challenging its management of the passage.
According to the statement, any military vessel attempting to interfere with navigation or create disturbances in the Strait of Hormuz would be met with action from Iran's armed forces.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important energy corridors, handling a significant portion of global oil and gas shipments.
Iran has recently tightened controls over maritime traffic in the waterway amid heightened regional tensions. Authorities say the measures are aimed at safeguarding security and ensuring orderly passage through the strategic route.
The announcement comes as Iranian lawmakers consider legislation that would formally reinforce the country's role in managing and overseeing activities in the Strait of Hormuz.
